The Huntsman Cancer Institute’s future Vineyard campus is officially starting to rise above ground, marking the latest milestone in a project that will bring comprehensive cancer care and research closer to Utah County residents.
Huntsman Cancer Institute leaders joined elected officials, community partners, donors and residents last week for a cornerstone celebration at the future campus, marking the start of vertical construction.
The milestone comes more than a year after the project broke ground in April 2025. Since then, much of the work has happened below the surface as crews prepared the 20-acre site between I-15 and Utah Lake for construction.
That preparation has included excavation, groundwater removal and the installation of 830 deep foundation supports designed to anchor the future campus. With that work underway, construction is now shifting upward, meaning the building itself will begin becoming a much more visible part of Vineyard’s landscape.
The progress also comes as Huntsman Cancer Institute looks to address a significant need among Utah County residents. In 2025 alone, the institute recorded more than 52,000 patient visits from Utah County and nearby areas. Those patients traveled approximately 3.9 million miles to access care at the Salt Lake City campus.
The Vineyard campus is intended to reduce that travel burden while expanding access to Huntsman’s cancer expertise closer to home.
The first phase plans to include multidisciplinary cancer clinics, radiation oncology, diagnostic imaging, endoscopy, infusion and pharmacy services, cancer screenings, wellness and integrative health programs and urgent care. Inpatient treatment and a surgery center are planned for a future phase.
The more than 284,000-square-foot campus will include a five-story clinical care building and a three-story research building, along with space for community engagement and education.
Research and education will also remain a major part of the project. Planned programs include clinical trials, computational oncology and data science, as well as opportunities to work with nearby universities and businesses.
For Vineyard residents, the next phase will be a visible one. After months of preparation underground, the Huntsman campus will begin taking shape above the ground as crews continue construction toward an expected September 2028 opening.
The project’s progress means the campus is becoming a physical part of the city — and, eventually, a closer option for cancer care for thousands of Utah County families.
