When Bella’s Market opened in November 2025, it marked a turning point for Vineyard. For more than a century, residents had lived without a local market, relying on trips outside city limits for everyday essentials. Set within the redevelopment of the former Geneva Steel Mill site, Bella’s sits at the center of what is becoming Vineyard’s new downtown district – Utah City.

While many believed it was still too early for Vineyard to support a full grocery store, the Utah City development team saw something different: a growing community ready for a local anchor. Rather than waiting years for the “right time,” they made a deliberate decision to move forward and build something that could grow with the city.

A grocery pad was designated early in the Utah City development plan, and the team began searching for the right partner to bring the vision to life. That search led to a partnership with Lee’s Marketplace, a family-owned grocery company with extensive experience in operating community-centered stores. Together, the Utah City development team and Lee’s combined strengths – development, architecture, construction, and real estate expertise on one side, and generations of grocery knowledge on the other – to create Bella’s Market.

From the beginning, the goal was clear: build a beautiful neighborhood store for Vineyard that made everyday shopping accessible, practical, and affordable. Not just a place to buy groceries, but a place designed around residents’ daily needs.

Inside the store, that community focus is immediately visible. Bella’s blends everyday essentials with local identity: a neighborhood pharmacy, butcher block, from-scratch bakery, fresh tortilla production, flower shop, and shelves filled with Utah-based products. The space feels both modern and familiar – designed for quick stops, full grocery runs, and daily routines.

The heart of the store is its in-house bakery. Overnight bakers arrive as early as 1 a.m. to begin preparing fresh bread, daily-made tortillas, donuts, and pastries from scratch. It’s one of Bella’s defining features that sets the store apart, bringing the feel of a traditional neighborhood bakery into a modern grocery space.

Local sourcing is woven throughout the store. Bella’s carries well-known Utah brands like Clean Simple Eats, Just Ingredients, and Nutricost (based in Vineyard), along with other local vendors they intentionally highlight, such as Ambrosial Bakery’s gluten-free desserts and pastries from Provo. Inside the store, Flower Bar Co., a local florist, operates a full flower shop. The result of these features is a shopping experience that feels distinctly local and personal, not generic.

Even the name of the store reflects that philosophy. The name “Bella’s” comes from a grandmother affectionately called Bella by one of the people involved in the project – a woman known for always making fresh food, gathering people together, and welcoming everyone from family, friends, and neighbors to complete strangers. Her kitchen was a place where community formed naturally around food. That spirit became the foundation of the store’s identity: the idea that everyone has a “Bella” in their life – someone who brings people together, where food becomes the center of connection, regardless of background or circumstance. Fittingly, Bella’s Market held its grand opening on her birthday.

That opening drew more than 1,000 people – clear evidence of how ready Vineyard was for its own grocery store. For many families, Bella’s now replaces routine trips to Orem, keeping daily life closer to home and strengthening neighborhood connections.

Bella’s has also brought real opportunity back into the city, creating more than 100 local jobs and helping establish a workforce rooted in the community it serves. As Utah City’s first major amenity, the store sets the tone for future development: a place where people can live, work, shop, and gather without leaving their neighborhood.

Beyond the physical space, Bella’s is focused on long-term value for Vineyard residents. Weekly ads, promotions, and discounts are available through bellasmarket.com, with a mobile app launching soon to make savings even more convenient and accessible. The goal, according to the team, is to balance high-quality local products and strong community partnerships with affordability, ensuring Bella’s remains a store for everyone.

Built on land once defined by steel production, Bella’s Market now represents a shift in Vineyard’s story, away from industrial identity and toward a people-centered community. It functions as a gathering place, an employer, a neighborhood anchor, and a tangible representation of Vineyard’s transition from budding development to grounded community.

For longtime residents and new families alike, Bella’s isn’t just where groceries come from; it’s where Vineyard begins to truly settle into its identity as a home.
