Primary elections are a critical piece of American democracy, and yet year after year, voter participation in primaries remains dismally low. Numbers from Utah’s municipal primary that was held in August show that Utah is no exception.

Less than a quarter, 24%, of voters in Utah County voted in the August election. This low voter turnout is more than just a statistic; it’s a warning for the upcoming General Election this November. If this trend continues, the future of our city and state will be decided by a fraction of our population.

The General Election on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, is our opportunity to ensure that the future of Vineyard is shaped by all of us, not just a select few. It’s a chance to have a say in who will represent us at city hall.

Here’s how you can make a difference:

  1. Register to vote: If you’re not registered or have recently moved, make sure your registration is up to date. You can verify your voter registration is accurate by going online: vote.utah.gov.
  2. Get informed: Take some time to learn about the candidates and issues on the ballot. Attend local town halls, read candidate websites and look for nonpartisan voter guides.
  3. Make a plan to vote: Decide whether you’ll vote by mail or in-person. However you vote, make a plan to fill it out and return your ballot in a timely manner.
  4. Encourage others: Talk to your friends, family and neighbors about the importance of voting. Offer to help them get registered or find information about the election.

Our community is growing and changing, and it’s more important than ever that every voice is heard. If you have additional questions about voting, please contact the Utah County Clerk
